Solidly Designed Toaster Oven

By Mrs. F.
For the most part...just the looks alone are nice and clean. It doesn't look like a spaceship on the counter.
Nice simple straight lines and simple on / off / bake / broil / etc controllers.

There were later design ovens from this manufacturer, but for the price, and all the Basic Features, I figured how can I go wrong?
With 1800 watts for the total heating elements...right there that tells you that it is going to heat up fast...maintain quickly to attain the setpoint, and perform like a regular electric range / oven / broiler; but just in a smaller package.

Toast making is complete on both sides. Fast! And with no drying out of the toast bread.
I was looking for the ability to toast bread, without the bread sitting there in the oven just drying out on the inside of the bread; while the outside was browning. That is the problem with toasters that are Lower Wattage. It is a proven fact in the testing sequence of a toaster designed to do just that....make toast.
The setpoint maintains just that, with not much droop in temperature. It is quick to respond to maintain the setpoint (temperature selected) to do a fast cooking chore.
The crumb catch tray just slides out easily for cleaning which is a plus. My old toaster oven had to be turned on its side to flip open the crumb tray. Wow! Those crumbs really sat in there till they cooked themselves to the tray.
With the slide out easy clean tray...I clean the crumbs every two or three times I use the oven / toaster! Smart Design!

The only downside ...and it does not affect the useability of the oven; but it is annoying trying to see the settings plainly stamped in black lettering and numbering; but very very small. Just one step UP in the font SIZE would be a big improvement. I lost my 20 year old perfect vision some 40 or so years ago, and even with corrective lenses...I have to keep a little magnifying readers glass there just to see the settings of the controls. My 18 Y/O granddaughter who has perfect 20 /20 vision even has difficulty seeing the setpoints.
All In All....I recommend it highly. The functions and power of this little machine are absolutely great. It is definetely not in the toy division like some other products of the like are in.
I had to give this 4 stars**** only because of the inability to clearly see the setpoints on the controls that are printed so small. That's My Opinion Anyway!

Oooops! one more important item, is the fact that there are multiple slots to position the shelves / rack etc for the different applications of cooking / heating / toasting etc."NICE"

Does exactly what I need a toaster oven to do

By Jason Pollack
I need to replace an old Toastmaster toaster oven. The toaster was super-simple: Set the desired toast darkness, and press a lever to start toasting. After almost 20 years, it died. I thought it would be easy to find a replacement for it, but to my surprise, they don't make toaster ovens that simple these days.

My main requirement for needing a toaster oven as opposed to a vertical loading toaster was that I like to make toasted open-face sandwiches. Unfortunately, most of the toaster ovens that I saw while researching had several problems:

1) They required you to turn a dial to set the darkness each time.
2) The amount of space between light and dark was minimal, so getting it the way you want each time would be no easy task.
3) An annoying ticking sound.

Finally I came across this Cuisinart TOB-40, and this was the toaster for me. It was exactly what I needed in a toaster oven. It solves those 3 problems: You can set it and forget it. Adjustments to toast darkness are easy because there is a dial dedicated to setting it. There is an on/off button and *no ticking*. It also has the bonus of the rack that extends automatically when the door is opened.

If you're like me and need something that's more of a toaster than an oven, but is suitable for making open-faced sandwiches and for toasting larger items such as muffins, I'd highly recommend this one.

Wonderful, simple toaster that works!

By D. Kerr
I LOVE this toaster oven! After reading about needing to spend $180 to get a decent toaster oven, and a couple of hugely dissapointing recent toaster ovens which went from raw to burnt way too quick, I was hugely relieved to find this one.

The toast setting is its own third dial, and there's plenty of room to adjust the degree of brown. You set dial 1 on toast, dial 3 on the level of brown, then press the "toast" button. Worked great (I can't tell if the mechanism is digital or some kind of manual timer, but it doesn't have a tick-tick-tick sound, and the done signal is a crisp beep-beep, like a coffeemaker.

The oven settings seem to work well too, but that worked on my other crappy toaster ovens. It's the toast that really makes me happy.

There are directions on three different settings for the rack (for different size/type baking), but so far little pizzas and toast are great.

An excellent, straightforward toaster. Yay!

3 defective units received

By kitchengadgetnut
Purchased 2 for gifts- both were defective-returned to Amazon and they replaced 1 unit-this also was defective. Seems to be problem with the charging unit. 1 unit- the charging indicator light stayed red for both mills. 2 units- only 1 of the mills showed green on the charging unit.

Amazon's customer service rep, Jane, has been extremely helpful in trying to get this resolved. I am hoping that this was just a bad lot sent to them and that they can replaced them. My kitchen has many Cusinart products and this is the first time I have had any issue with this manufacture's products.

Cuisinart Quality

By Scott Anderson
Right from the box this pepper and salt set worked well. There did seem to be an issue of charging but when I switched sides both units charged accordingly and have never been a problem since. The ease in changing the grind certainly helps with a variety of textures needed. Some recipes call for a coarse grind pepper such as grilled steaks but a finer grind in soups and sauces. This also applies to the salt mill as well and it's ease of use.

The handle is ergonomically designed and comfortable to hold and both units have an easy to press button on the top to start the grinding. The base unit is great for storage and makes recharging easy as well as economical, thus saving on tossing batteries into landfills.

I also like the light feature so you can see what your grinding into and how much. The hoppers hold a nice amount of salt or pepper and are interchangeable and it you desire to add a variety of herbs or dried garlic/ginger the grinders are equally up to the task. Once I've used the grinder I simply put back into teh charging base and it ready for the next culinary need. Very simple and straight forward without a lot of guesswork on operation and cleaning the grinders and base charging station is a snap with a simple wipe with a damp cloth.

Pick up a set and enjoy the versatility of grinding wihtout the constant twisting of your wrist. Both grinders are also kid friendly, just make sure they hold them high enough above the food without dropping them into the pot, dish or plate.

Sorely Disappointed

By Kevin
I almost didn't order this product based upon another poor review but after seeing a number of good reviews I placed my order. My product had the exact problem of the other poor review. The product cannot hold a charge and the charging lights (which turn green when the product is fully charged) never turned green, even after more than 72 hours of charging. I contacted Amazon and they immediately sent me a replacement product. Unfortunately, the replacement product has the exact same problem - the shakers cannot hold a charge. I don't want to continue with this process so I am returning both orders to Amazon.

A perfect gift for new homemakers, the food processor has become an integral part of modern cooking, speeding up a multitude of processes, including kneading dough; slicing; chopping; shredding cheese, vegetables, and meat; mincing garlic and parsley; mixing batters; and emulsifying mayonnaise. Cuisinart's Pro Custom comes with an 11-cup work bowl; five basic attachments for slicing, shredding, chopping, mixing, and kneading; and also features two feed-tube options, one big enough to handle a whole potato. This processor comes with a compact cover for use when the feed tube isn't needed and a pulse control that allows the desired degree of fineness when chopping and puréeing. Remove the detachable stem for compact storage of discs. All the parts are dishwasher-safe and the motor base wipes clean. In addition, a custom-contoured spatula, a 50-page recipe booklet, and a 30-minute video designed to familiarize the new owner with the care and use of the food processor are included. --Victoria Jenkins

Cuisinart DLC-8S is Shoddy Shadow of former Cuisinarts

By A Customer
My 1987 DLC-7 is my 3rd Cuisinart. It has had daily use and is worn and has a small problem. I ordered the DLC-8s only to find it cannot compare to my old machine even in it's state of advanced age and I am returning it. For example the cord is short and light weight. The bowl is actually smaller...11 cups is really an exaggeration. The motor is 5.2 amps compared with the 6 amps of the DLC-7 and the DLC-8S is lighter. The deciding flaw however is the poorly designed switching arms on the feed tube. They are flimsy and an accident begging to happen. I am going to have my old machine repaired and look at the Kitchen Aid processors. Very sad to lose an outstanding product.

Sad end to a noble name

By Joanna Daneman
Cuisinart is practically synonymous with food processor. When the French were manufacturing them years ago, you couldn't touch another blender, processor or kitchen appliance that would do more. But the manufacturer changed, and so did the Cuisinart. My cuisinart bowl cracked at the base. To their credit, they did replace the bowls. Now the knives, the most critical part of the food processor, are no longer the same.In addition, if you do heavy breads (we like to do rye) you will find that the stem can overheat and the bowl can stick on it for a bit (until you figure out how to get it off, not easy, let me tell you.) I once even had the plastic dough blade stick onto the stem. The bowl isn't so easy to clean, either. I give it three stars because it still slices and dices with the greatest skill, but overall, I would not buy one again. Sad....

There are better choices.

By A Customer
This food processor is made in China. For the same amount of money you can buy an 11 cup Kitchen Aid. It runs smoother, has the slicing blades and a mini bowl. The blades are Sabatier and are excellent. We tried both machines and returned the Cuisinart.
